Christmas in ICU

Christmas came a little early for patients at Canberra Hospital last week. On Sunday, they received handmade gifts crafted by 300 members of the Good Omen Goodeze – a local craft group known for creating comfort items for Canberra Health Services patients and their loved ones.

Blankets, toys, gowns, pillows, stockings and socks were among the thoughtfully made items, while ICU patients and staff benefitted from hand-crafted Christmas decorations, too.

‘The general consensus was that the ICU not only looked like but felt like Christmas, thanks to the goodwill this visit brought,’ said Kathy Cook, a Registered Nurse in our Intensive Care Unit. ‘It reminds us how important connections are to those in hospital – particularly for those who have long hospitalisations with COVID restrictions isolating patients from family.’

Merry Christmas everyone, we hope you have a safe and restful holiday.
