We need your creative hands to help support long-term hospital patients who are dealing with anxiety and need comfort during their stay.
We are looking for donations of handmade Sensory Rugs—or individual Crochet Squares to build them! These creations bring immense comfort, grounding, and a calming distraction to patients when they need it most.
What you can make:
Sensory Rugs: Full rugs incorporating gentle, soothing weight, textured yarns, and interactive elements.
Crochet Squares: Make individual textured squares using patterns like the ones below! We will sew these together to build our collective sensory rugs.
Fidget Details: Attach 3D elements like flowers, curly cues, or soft shapes that patients can twirl, roll, or fidget with.
Important Crafting Guidelines:
Textured Yarns & Stitches: Play with different textures—chenille, bouclé, fluffy, or try textured stitches such as waffle etc.
Safety First: Please ensure all attached bits are either crocheted into a rug/square or double-stitched and firmly secured so nothing can be pulled off.
There is also the opportunity to learn how to create flower square patterns for this project at our Ainslie meetup this weekend!
Thank you for always putting your heart into our community projects. We can’t wait to see what you create! ![]()
