“While meeting a female patient at hospital recently it became clear she was very distressed and anxious. While trying to reassure the lady as we moved out to the Ambulance, I was aware that the lady was still emotional and overwhelmed.
The situation was transformed when I gave this lady a knitted doll with a red dress. The patient burst into tears of joy; I told her the story of a group of volunteers who make these items for our special patients, that she was special, and I was allowed to give her this. She told me about the red dress she had many years ago.
The tears gave way to smiles and the whole journey was transformed to a good experience for us both.”
