Our comfort care packs provide physical and psychological comfort to patients at the end of their lives.
Toni Ashmore, Senior Project Manager for the Territory Wide Palliative Care Service Project, says the packs include things like beanies, gowns, socks lovingly hand crafted by members of the community and fans and weighted blankets to promote physical comfort.
‘We also include materials for families to take handprints, thumbprints and locks of hair stored in a lovely memory box’, says Toni. ‘We are grateful to Canberra Hospital Foundation for enabling the purchase of these items’.
We recently heard from the family of a man who was admitted to an oncology ward for end of life comfort care. ‘We will long remember the kindness, compassion, professionalism and empathy of every member of staff who cared for our Dad, and us, so very well… We’ll be forever grateful.’
